Afghanistan-UAE relations

Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates have long maintained and maintained friendly bilateral relations. In 1971, when the father and founder of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan – may God have mercy on him – laid the foundation for the unity and union of the various emirates of this country, he immediately began to nurture bilateral relations and establish a path of progress between the two countries with the reigning King of Afghanistan, Mohammed Zahir Shah – may God have mercy on him – in 1973. The two kings sent messages to each other, and a series of bilateral meetings between diplomats and representatives of the two countries also began on that date. Afghanistan recognized the government of the United Arab Emirates and officially recognized it as an independent Arab country in the Arabian Gulf.

With the overthrow of the communist regime in Afghanistan and the Russian invasion, when millions of Afghans were forced to emigrate and leave their homeland, the United Arab Emirates was one of the countries that strengthened relations with Afghan refugees, began to provide assistance in the areas of education, health, culture, and social life, and provided and created job opportunities for thousands of Afghans.
